Grandma's Flower Garden from Sue Urich

Hi All,
Only two quilts left before Christmas! Here is a special project for friends. The blocks were made by their then 12 year old mother (who hated every minute of sewing). Of course it was just the blocks and all the papers were backstitched in not just basted. Any way I know it is kind of a different treatment since they were appliqued on and the "piecing" lines quilted. Enjoy your down time after Christmas!

Hugs and Kisses from Sue Urich

I never have any interesting quilts to bring to meetings, but thought this was different enough. DH walks in and says that must be a baby quilt with all the hugs and kisses ( X's, O's ) on it. Well if he got it so will the client.

September 2008 Meeting

Thanks to Shelley and Ann for hosting the meeting at Quilters Quarters in Spring Valley. Thanks also for imparting all of your knowledge on getting started on our whole cloth challenge. I have to apologize for not getting a photo of the Quilts on a Stick that Shelly and Ann brought. I don't know what I was thinking! They were wonderfully cute and creative for those of you that were not able to be at the meeting. You'll have to take my word for it.

Double Knit Quilt

What are you going to do with all of that vintage double knit fabric? You could make a leisure suit or you could make a quilt! I'm not quite sure what to do with this thing. Will there be a double knit category at the Des Moines Quilt Show this fall?

The Underground Railroad Quilt

This quilt was a start to finish quilt for Michelle and me. She pieced and bound it an I quilted it. The neighbor woman is a great admirer of quilts but she doesn't sew , so she has been a great customer of ours. She has a brother -in -law that is black and is interested in the Underground Railroad. She and some other family members commissioned us to make this for his birthday this summer. We had such fun doing it. Michelle got the patterns for the blocks from the book "Facts and Fabrications: Unraveling the History of Quilts and Slavery" by Barbara Brackman. I included the names of the blocks and descriptions from the book. Some of the blocks, as you can see, have different names than we know them by. I had a mistake in the block posts....."Birds in the Air" is a block to recall freedom.
